Trusting Community Reporting?

John Naughton writing in The Guardian makes a very powerful point about the need for trusted sources of information in developing communities. With the use of Facebook as a tool for promoting fake news, which has led to violence in Myanmar and Sri Lanka, Naughton suggests that: We have woken up to Facebook’s pernicious role […] Continue reading

Technology Addiction is a Real Problem

As more evidence is emerging that our use of technology has negative effects on our mental well being, we might have to start thinking about how we can address some of the patterns of behavior and expectations about the way that we use social media and tech devices. Social Media Influencers and Advertising

It’s often thought that anything goes when it comes to social media, and that we are free to do and say pretty much whatever we want because there is no control. Davie Moore’s Absolute Radio Work Experience

DemonFM’s Davie Moore spent a couple of weeks working at Absolute Radio in London. Here’s Davie’s account of his experience: During the first week of the placement there it was very much a ‘get to know everyone’ environment rather than tackling things head on. Instantly noticeable is how relaxed things are, everyone knows their jobs and they do them, but there is still plenty of laughter, chatter etc. between themselves. In other words, it is what working in the media (radio in particular) should be about. Another standout thing is how small the company is. We’ve all been told about how small the industry is and how it is downsizing so you have less people doing more jobs, this is the perfect example of it. The Breakfast Show currently operates without an Executive Producer, which is quite a staggering thought … Continue reading
